Stop Committing Adultery!

Hey you! Yes you! The guy with the wedding ring on his left ring finger. Stop committing adultery! It’s not fair to your wife and it’s only hurting your marriage. The problem is, you probably don’t even realize what you’re doing or how you’re doing it. Let me give you a scripture that most may know but few abide by. It was said by Jesus concerning adultery.

27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’[a] 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. – Matt. 5:27-28

Most Christians have heard this verse but very few of us truly follow it. You have to really understand what committing adultery “in your heart” is really saying. What and who you truly are is in your heart. Let me break it down a little further. You can’t even truly be saved unless you BELIEVE in your HEART that God raised Jesus from the dead (Romans 10:9). You see, even your very belief system is dependent upon your heart. So to commit adultery in your heart is just as bad as actually committing the act in Christ’s eyes.

“Ok yea I here you Brandon, but I don’t lay my eyes upon other women like that. I don’t even turn my head or try to sneak a glance. I’m just not that type of guy.” This may be true. I consider my own self a really faithful husband, loving to my wife with eyes only for her. But there’s a dangerous medium out there right now that even the best of us have to be cautious about. SOCIAL MEDIA! You may not be the guy looking at every butt, breast or thigh that passes your peripheral, but there are a few ladies that happen to make you scroll slower when you’re going down your timeline. Make you click on their profile and check out more of their pics “just to see if you know them”. Social media has made it so easy to slip up without even noticing you’re doing it because it’s not in the physical. You’re not physically turning your head and staring at another woman. But that’s why I posted that scripture to remind us that committing adultery starts in the heart. In the heart is where desires manifest and become reality. This is why I believe Jesus said this about adultery because you have to kill it before it ever becomes more than just a glance. If you never allow it to manifest it doesn’t take root in your heart. Here’s another scripture on how important what you do in your heart is…

23 Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it. -Proverbs 4:23

Everything you do FLOWS from your HEART. So you have to protect it. You have to be careful of what you let in because it will eventually come out or “flow from it”.

Listen we’ve all had moments where we’ve had to catch ourselves. Where we’ve had to restructure our thinking and motives. Social media is good for a lot of things but it can be a danger zone filled with all kinds of traps and deception for men and women alike. And not just married men and women. Just remember to give yourself a heart check daily to make sure it’s focused on the right things. Love God. Love your wife. All the rest isn’t worth it. I love y’all and be blessed!
